With 400 deaths recorded on a daily basis, the Indian road network saw a total of 1.46 lakh deaths in 2015 alone. That’s more than the death toll of all Indian wars combined.
In an attempt to reduce these horrific figures by nearly 50% by 2020, the Union Cabinet after much debate has approved the Motor Vehicles (Amendment) Bill 2016. Said to be one of the biggest reforms and a historic move for road safety, the bill aims to punish offenders with stingier penalties than the current ones.
Feels like a much needed change, right?
