First Bail Obtained For Illegal Bangladeshi Under New CAA 2019
In the backdrop of the provision of the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), the Karnataka High Court has granted bail to a Bangladeshi Christian woman accused of being an “illegal immigrant”. It was alleged that the woman obtained the Indian passport through fraudulent documents. Advocate Ayantika Mondal represented the petitioner's case in the court, and it was observed by the court that there is prima facie material to show that the woman has been residing in India since 2002. And as a result, she deserves bail in the light of the amended Section 2 of the Citizenship Act, 1955 through the CAA, 2019. It is the first bail obtained for an illegal Bangladeshi, under New CAA 2019, in India. It is widely reported in national and international media. Some reference links:
