In the 1950s, early AI studies addressed issues such as problem-solving and symbolic processes. In the 1960s, the US Department of Defence took an interest in this kind of work and began teaching computers to emulate fundamental human reasoning. In the 1970s, for instance, the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) completed street mapping projects, and in 2003, long before Cortana, Siri or Alexa became household names, DARPA developed intelligent personal assistants. This early work laid the groundwork for the automation and systematic reasoning we see in today's computers, including decision support systems and smart search systems designed to complement and improve human skills.
AI is done by researching how the human brain thinks and how people learn, determine and function while attempting to unravel a dilemma, then using the results of this analysis as an essence of smart software and systems creation.
